25th Anniversary

“Celebrating Twenty-Five Years of Excellent Water Management”,

This year, KOBWA is celebrating 25 years in existence and KOBWA is commemorating her success as a leading entity in sustainable and integrated trans-boundary water management. 

In particular, KOBWA is celebrating;

  • Successfully implementing the mandate by the Party States which includes; designing, constructing Driekoppies Dam is Schoemansdal, South Africa and Maguga Dam in Piggs Peak Swaziland;
  • Sound trans-boundary relations between the Republic of South Africa and Swaziland;
  • Implementing trans-boundary management of; water infrastructure, including ancillary infrastructure
  • Comprehensive management of the ecosystem,
  • Provision of Employment opportunities in particular for locals who were also and empowered of same with artisans’ skills;
  • Ethical business enhanced through assisting Basin communities in needs that relate to water and sanitation;
  • Information sharing forums that include the Komati Joint Operations Forum (KJOF), coordinated by KOBWA and they meet every month to discuss issues that relate to water management in the Komati Basin. 


25th Anniversary Commemorative Events

A series of commemorative events are scheduled between September and November 2017.  These include;

  • A community soccer tournament that involves; Jeppes Reef, Buffelspruit, Middelplaas, Schulzendal, Driekoppies and Schoemansdal.  The tournament will be held on the 23 and 24 September at the Driekoppies Stadium starting at 09am. 
  • A shoe schools drive whereby 500 pairs of shoes will be distributed to needy learners in primary schools in KOBWA’s area of operation.  The benefiting primary schools will also be supplied with sanitary towels.
  • A Stakeholder soccer tournament will be held in Swaziland and KOBWA will engage; the Schoemansdal South African Police Services (SAPS), the Jeppes Reef SAPS, the Matsamo Royal Swaziland Police and the Piggs Peak Royal Swaziland Police in a one-day soccer tournament. 
  • A tour of KOBWA’s Water Management projects, in particular those projects that enhance communities’ access to water. The tours will be held in South Africa and in Swaziland;
  • An executive lunch for KOBWA’s Shareholders and Stakeholders that will be held at the Emnothweni Arena, Nelspruit on the 08 November 2017.

KOBWA launched the new 25th Anniversary logo to KOBWA Employees.  This follows an internal logo-development competition that was run internally.  Mr.  Sydney Dhlamini developed the best logo which clearly displays KOBWA’s transboundary status, core business (water management) and main beneficiaries – agriculture.
